Radiotherapy for Geriatric Cancer Patients: Five-year Experience at a North Indian Tertiary Care Hospital

Background: The incidence of malignancy in elderly population India has risen due to increased life expectancy, health awareness, and access tertiary care. Radiotherapy is the primary treatment modality cancer patients morbidity surgery. We reviewed analyzed clinical, disease profiles geriatric treated with conventional radiotherapy at our institute. Methodology: clinical records aged 70 years or more, from January 2015 December 2019 were for patient characteristics (age, sex & co-morbidities), (site, histology stage) (modality intent treatment, radiation dose). Results: A total 289 above during study period. 69% curative intent, which, 72.4% received definitive, 24.6% adjuvant, 3% neoadjuvant radiotherapy. 31% given palliative median age was 74.6 male: female ratio 4.25:1. 21.4% had co-morbidities. 14% early stage, 57% locally advanced 29% metastatic disease. 51% concurrent chemotherapy along Radiotherapy. 87.1% those 93.3% completed planned regimen. Out 200 institute Radiotherapy, 187 prescribed chemotherapy, while it exhibited only 103 various factors like old age, poor performance status Conclusion: Our showed a high degree compliance amongst receiving treatment. Toxicity rates not significantly higher than overall centre. Various biology stage patient’s status, co-morbidities expectancy affect decision making deciding schedules group. Combined between patients, caregivers oncologists crucial group keeping mind mentioned factors.
